Sitting down between the button and the big blind means the blinds have gone past you. The tool dealt those players straight in, silently.

Measured: Eve takes seat 5 mid-session, and on the next hand she is dealt cards in late position having put nothing in. A free hand, paid for out of everyone else's night a couple of dollars at a time, with nothing anywhere on screen to tell the dealer it had happened. At a table there are two answers and the player picks one — post the big blind and come in now, or wait for the blind to reach them. The tool did neither and named neither.

What changed

The deal prompt names anyone about to be dealt in who hasn't paid for it, and carries the post as one tap:

Eve sat down after the blinds — a free hand unless they post. [ Post $2 ]

  • Nothing is forced. A home game that doesn't care can deal exactly as before, and the sentence earns its place on its own — the dealer at least knows.
  • The post is a big blind out of that player's own stack, live like any blind, and spent at the end of the hand rather than becoming a standing charge. Undo takes the decision back.
  • Somebody back from sitting out is owed one the same as a newcomer. The big blind of the hand isn't — they're already paying — and neither is anyone at a table that hasn't dealt a hand yet, where the whole table is new and nobody has been skipped. A seat sat out for having no chips isn't owed anything either; it isn't getting a hand.
  • Deliberately one line for however many have walked up, not one each. The bar is docked over the felt and the felt has already shrunk to its floor on a phone, so every line here is taken out of the ring of seats — a line apiece put the bar over two fifths of the bottom seat at 390x844, which the layout audit caught. They post together or wait together, which is what happens at a table when two people sit down at once.
  • Old saves read as a table nobody has just walked up to, so reopening the tab doesn't ask everyone to post.

Deliberately not done: automatic "wait for the blind" re-entry, which needs the tool to track a sat-out seat's position through the rotation. Waiting is still available — the dealer sits them out — and the prompt no longer lets it happen by accident.

Verification

15 new tests in tests/holdem/postingIn.test.js: who is and isn't owed a blind, that the post moves real chips and doesn't raise the hand, that it's spent after one deal, that moving the button doesn't refund it (repostBlinds takes every posted chip back and deals again — a post that cleared itself on the way in would vanish), and migration. Suite at 320 tests, 0 failures.

Playwright MCP: sat Eve down mid-session, saw the line appear, tapped Post (prompt flips to "Eve posting $2 to come in" with a Don't post toggle), undid it through the bar's undo pill and back, then dealt — $2 out of her stack, current bet unchanged at $2, action to her. Next hand: line gone, nothing extra charged. Checked one and two newcomers at 390/768/1280 — 44px tap target on touch, no text overflow, no sideways scroll, contrast and layout audit clean at every size, no console errors.

Stacked on fix/casino-holdem-dead-button.

Sitting down between the button and the big blind means the blinds have gone past
you. The tool dealt those players straight in, silently. Measured: Eve takes a seat,
and the next hand she is dealt cards in late position having put nothing in — a free
hand, out of everyone else's night a couple of dollars at a time, with nothing
anywhere on screen to tell the dealer it had happened.

At a table there are two answers and the player picks one: post the big blind and
come in now, or wait for the blind to reach them. The tool did neither and named
neither.

The deal prompt now names anyone about to be dealt in who has not paid for it, and
carries the post as one tap. Nothing is forced — a home game that doesn't care can
deal as before, and the sentence is still worth having on its own, because the
dealer at least knows. The post goes in as a big blind out of that player's own
stack, is live like any blind, and is spent at the end of the hand rather than
becoming a standing charge.

Somebody back from sitting out is owed one the same as a newcomer. The big blind of
the hand isn't — they're already paying — and neither is anyone at a table that has
not dealt a hand yet, where the whole table is new and nobody has been skipped.

Deliberately one line for however many have walked up, not one each: the bar is
docked over the felt and the felt has already shrunk as far as it goes on a phone,
so every line costs seat area. A line apiece put the bar over two fifths of the
bottom seat at 390x844.
